Let’s Talk English Championship

So, one of the most competitive leagues in the world is back! Let’s talk about the English Championship.

Starting off with last season, Newcastle, whom finished on 94 points nicked the title off Brighton, who ended on 93 points in a brilliant end to a brilliant league on a brilliant season. So Newcastle, Brighton and Huddersfield all went up to the Premiership. Huddersfield finished 5th with 81 points but got promoted on play-offs.

Blackburn would have felt hard done by as they were relegated on a goal difference of 2. Yes a difference of 2 goals relegated them. Wigan, who fought well at the end of the season also got relegated, and Rotherham… well, Rotherham were the final team to be relegated with a measly 23 points…

So, who’s the 6 new faces in this years Championship? Sunderland, Hull City and Middlesbrough all got relegated from the Premiership whereas Sheffield United, whom finished on 100points in League 1 got promoted with Bolton and Millwall who actually just made the play-offs by a single point and still managed to gain promotion! Crazy!

The Championship kicks off on 4th August with games from Sunderland vs Derby County and Nottingham Forest vs Millwall.

With Aston Villa bringing in the likes of John Terry, Christopher Samba, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan it has made them favourites to win this seasons league at 15/2 with newly demoted  side Middlesbrough behind them at 17/2.

This year’s Championship will be VERY competitive with Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Hull City – and more will all be aiming for the League title this year.
